Patient Stories
Below is a collection of stories from our patients and community members regarding their lived experience on various aspects of Bill 47
January 2019 – “As a nurse working in the emergency room in Toronto, I think about the many patients who have had to postpone going to clinics because they can’t afford to take time off work. Instead they often delay going to a clinic and present in the emergency department worsening symptoms. Long wait times become even longer, and it a burdensome expense to the health care system as a whole.”

On Paid Sick Days…
October 2018 – *Anna presented to the emergency department with an injury requiring surgery and days off from work. When Anna heard about Bill 148, she spoke about the huge sense of relief she had knowing that her job wasn’t threatened by her medical condition. Now, with legislative changes due to Bill 47 as of January 1st 2019, any illness or injury can put her job at risk. Anna will have only three days to recover from illness or injury. Anna now experiences stress knowing that she is ask risk of losing her job since only three days of unpaid sick leave is not enough for her condition.
